Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy in CA

Understanding yourself in a deeper, more compassionate way

You may notice parts of yourself that feel in conflict.

One part of you wants to move forward.
Another feels stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed.
A critical voice might show up and tell you you’re not doing enough.
And a more vulnerable part may feel hurt, alone, or unseen.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy helps you make sense of these experiences—so you can respond to yourself with more clarity, compassion, and intention.

What’s really happening underneath

IFS understands the mind as made up of different parts—each with a role.

At the center is your present adult Self—a steady, grounded presence that can lead with clarity and intention.

Around it are parts that have developed over time:

  • Manager parts try to keep things under control—through overthinking, people-pleasing, or being self-critical—so you don’t get hurt

  • Firefighter parts step in when emotions feel overwhelming—through shutting down, avoiding, numbing, or reacting quickly—to reduce intensity

  • Vulnerable parts hold emotions like sadness, fear, or shame

These parts aren’t the problem—they’re trying to help, even if their strategies don’t always serve you.

How I work with you

In our sessions, we focus on building awareness of your internal world so you can begin to notice what’s happening inside—without judgment.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Recognize when different parts are showing up

  • Understand what they’re trying to protect or communicate

  • Respond with curiosity instead of criticism

Over time, your Self begins to take the lead—so you can stay grounded, make intentional choices, and feel less pulled in different directions.

What starts to change

As your internal system becomes more understood, things begin to shift.

You may notice:

  • Less self-criticism and inner conflict

  • More clarity in your thoughts and decisions

  • Greater emotional steadiness

  • More ease in your relationships and boundaries

  • A stronger sense of trust in yourself
